Meghan Blackwood has been accepted onto the Scottish Dressage Team for a second year.
Meghan made the Scottish Team last year on an experience pony which had been loaned to her. This year, however, Meghan has made the grade on her own, home produced pony – Another Jay (Lenny). Meghan has had the pony since he was a youngster, and has trained him herself with the help of instructor Mary Elder.
Meghan and Lenny take part in all sorts of Pony Club and riding club activities, however, the pair have obviously shown the team selectors a flair for dressage.
The Caithness Branch would like to wish Meghan and Lenny best wishes for a very successful 2007.
The Dengie Winter Show Jumping League 2007
Rachel Gunn (11) and her pony Gallway Boy (Flyer) travelled to Warwickshire to compete in the finals of the Dengie Winter Show Jumping League last week.
Pony Club branches throughout Britain have been running qualifiying rounds of this competition all winter. After qualifying in Caithness, Rachel travelled to DABBS in Fife to compete in the area finals.
After getting through to the jump off, Rachel was third to jump. Rachel with her normal pizzaz, flew round the course to take the lead. This she held until the last competitor came in and unfortunately pipped her at the post.
Her second place, however, assured her of a qualifying round to travel to the Finals in Warwickshire.
There were 87 competitors taking part, and Rachel was one of the youngest.
Rachel gained a clear round in the first round and qualified for the jump off. Rachel was one of only 22 competitors who managed to get through to the jump off, and was also the only Scottish contender who made it to the jump off.
After a nail biting second round, Rachel came home overall 14th. This was a fantastic feat for such a young competitor, and the experience will have given the pair a lot of confidence to face bigger show jumping tracks in the future.
Well done Rachel and Flyer!!!
